The Mills College Soccer Team opened their season today against Chapman University. Chapman took an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Emma Castleton (Littleton, CO), assisted by Val Sobol (Forsyth, IL). However, Mills stepped up their defense and did not allow Chapman to score again until the 41 minute mark. The Cyclones' defense pushed back against a strong Chapman offense, holding the Panthers to three goals in the first half. Chapman continued to pressure in the second half, eventually wearing down the defense and tallying 7 more goals.
Sophomore keeper, Tayla Muise, finished the day with eleven saves. For Chapman, Haley Thorfinson (Scottsdale, AZ) and Emma Castleton (Littleton, CO) led the offense, contributing two goals each.
Mills plays again on September 8 at Hellman Field, taking on visiting UC Merced at 1:00 pm.
