In today's soccer match-up, Mills welcomed visiting Soka University of America. Soka got off to a rapid start with a first possession goal in the first minute. After the goal, the Cyclone defense settled in and held the Lions scoreless for much of the first half. Soka netted two goals in the final minutes of the first half to take a 3-0 lead.
The Cyclone defense faced pressure throughout the second half as well, with the Lions adding four more goals to their total. Mills answered back in the 59th minute on a goal from first year, Madison Cantrell, who scored off of a Cerina Bhavnani corner kick. Classmate Karen Reina would add another goal for the Cyclones in the 82nd minute.
Junior Courtney Koetz got her first start in goal for Mills. Koetz played all 90:00 minutes and finished the day with 11 saves. Despite the constant pressure from Soka, Koetz and the Mills defense stayed tough throughout the game.
Mills returns to action next Thursday when they travel to Pacific Union College to take on Providence Christian College.
