Coming off an away match yesterday, the Mills soccer team played visiting La Sierra University to a 2-1 final. Both teams put forth a strong defense and battled on offense.
Despite several shots from La Sierra, the first half remained scoreless until the 41st minute when Jennifer Gonzalez scored to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage. After the nearly scoreless first half, the second half started with two quick goals. The Cyclones came out strong, netting their first goal of the game two minutes into the half. First year Jessica Wong scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Terrapin Frazier. La Sierra, however, was quick to respond, scoring on a goal from Andrea Sida to make the score 2-1. Both teams would have other opportunities, but the final score remained 2-1.
Both teams finished the day with three shots on goal. First year Jessica Wong led the Cyclones with two shots on goal and a goal.
The Cyclones host Sierra Nevada next Thursday at 3:30 pm.
