The Mills College swim team started off the Liberal Arts Championships with five lifetime best, four season best, and four Top Ten swims. They also added a Mills school record. On top of these record setting swims, two individual swimmers and two relay teams will return to the pool tonight for finals.
In the first event of the day, the Mills 200 free relay team qualified for finals with a time of 1:53.71. The relay team was made up of Daniela Fiestas-Paredes, Juli Lopez, Ashley Young, and Macie Lopez. After their qualifying swim, all four saw success in their individual events. Immediately following the relay, Macie Lopez swam a lifetime best in the 500 free, moving to 4th place on the Top Ten list. She was joined by Morgan Leishman who moved to 2nd on the 500 free Top Ten list with her best time at Mills, Maggie Krystad who dropped 30 seconds for a lifetime best, and Sophia Preach who dropped 10 seconds for a season best time.
In the 200 IM all four Mills swimmers had impressive performances. First years Aine Piedad and Tatei Thomas dropped 13 and 5 seconds respectively, both for lifetime best times. Fiestas-Paredes dropped 13 seconds for a season best and 7th place on the Mills Top Ten list. Melissa Berkay broke into the top eight, qualifying for finals. In the 50 free both Juli Lopez and Ashley Young posted lifetime bests, while Heather Larson swam for a season best.
The day’s preliminary round ended with a school record in the 400 medley relay. The team of Leishman, Fiestas-Paredes, Berkay, and Macie Lopez recorded a time of 4:18.80, just missing the top eight.
