Mills College Volleyball returned to action tonight after a four-game roadtrip, taking on visiting Pacific Union College in their home opener. Game one featured several back and forth points before the Pioneers rallied for ten consecutive points. The Cyclones battled back, breaking PUC's streak with a kill by Cecilia Orantes (Los Angeles, CA). Mills then went on to cut the deficit in half before losing possession. Despite several tough rallies, Mills eventually fell 11-25.
The Pioneers started game two on a strong note, putting three points on the board before Mills regained possession, cutting the lead to one. The second game continued as another back and forth before PUC pulled away with eight straight points. Unable to close the gap, Mills fell 13-25. The Pioneers carried this momentum into game three, posting a quick lead. The Cyclones stayed determined, forcing several long rallies before an Adriana Particelli (St. Helena, CA) serve ended the match.
Mills finished the night with 12 kills, with Nina Chandrasena (Cathedral City, CA) recording a team high of six. Brittany Docherty (Pasadena, CA) led the team in digs with 12. For Pacific Union, Jenna Glantz (Angwin, CA) finished the night with six of the team's 29 kills.
Mills is back in action on Friday, September 6 when they travel to Menlo College for a four game tournament. Pacific Union also plays on Friday, taking on Saint Katherine College at home.
