The Mills volleyball team welcomed visiting UC Santa Cruz tonight for the final home match of the season. The match represented the final home contest for two seniors, June Garzaniti and Emma Rigby. Before the game, the senior's accomplishments were highlighted by head coach Jack Cowden. He made note of their leadership and dedication to the team, as well as the immense strides both players have made on the volleyball court.
Following the senior acknowledgement, the Cyclones went to work, putting forth their best effort of the season thus far. In each of the three sets, Mills scored first, taking early leads and making UC Santa Cruz fight for every point. Each set featured hard fought rallies, impressive kills, and solid defense.
In her senior game, Rigby was excellent for the Cyclones, helping to bring focus and intensity to the court. She finished the night with 41 attacks, 8 kills, and 13 digs. Garzaniti also put forth a very strong performance, finishing with 7 digs and 21 attacks. Junior, Vivian Kang continued her run of double digit digs, recording 16. Rigby's 9 points were closely followed by 7 from Jamie Ziolkowski. Ziolkowski finished the game with a .357 kill percentage, the highest for the Cyclones.
Next up, Mills will look to take this momentum to Louisiana when they travel to Centenary College for a four-team tournament.
