Mills College is entering the 2017 cross country season as the 8th member of the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA). The team will travel to SUNY-Delhi next week to compete in the inaugural ACAA Championship. The Cyclones will send seven runners to the championship.
In this inaugural year, Mills is looking forward to the opportunity to compete with comparable NCAA Division III institutions across the country. This opportunity to realize a conference championship has created amazing opportunities for the Cyclones to define competitive goals for athletic achievement with its conference alliance in the ACAA. The Cyclones have second year runner and senior Coco Kennedy (Sausalito, CA) leading the way with a personal best of 27:40 for 6K and 23:22 at the 5K distance. Sophomore Laura Schultz (St. Paul, MN) enters the conference with a 2017 personal best performance of 28:33 for 6k, which places her 10th all-time for the Cyclones at that distance. The Cyclones have had the wonderful opportunity to have eight members of the team achieve PR performances during the 2017 season. The team is eager to take this momentum into the ACAA championships and continue their performance improvements.
This season also marks an historic achievement for the Mills College Cross Country program. As a new member of the ACAA, the 2017 Cyclones will etch their names into the Mills College history books by being the first cross country team to compete in an NCAA Division III conference championship meet.
