In the opening regatta of the year, the Cyclones battled against St. Mary’s, UC Davis, Cal Maritime and Chico State. Head coach Sara Nevin said, “It’s a strong start for the year. We’re excited to keep working hard and to get faster.”
The 4 boat crew: coxswain Dawson, Alana Halstead, Grace Barton, Harper Bolz-Weber and Liv Coletta, raced first. They placed 3rd out of the 8 teams with a total time of 21:51. The 4 boat crew then jumped into the varsity 8 boat for the next race. The Cyclones varsity 8 placed the highest they ever have at the Head of Port Regatta. Coming in 2nd to St. Mary’s varsity, the Cyclones were only two minutes behind the Division I team with a time of 22:04.
Racing with the varsity boats, the Cyclones novice 8 placed 6th, beating St. Mary’s novice 8. “I’m proud of the novices. They went out and battled through tough conditions on the water,” said Nevin.
The Cyclones have one more fall regatta on October 27th at Head of America in Rancho Cordova.
