What is your full name?

Dalia Johanna Pimentel Zamudio

Were you named after someone?

My mom named me after someone she met at college in U.C Berkeley. She has told me that Dalia was a very important person to her and helped her get through a lot, so she had to name me after her.

Does your name have special meaning?

My name doesn't have a special meaning as far as I know. What I do about it though are that dalias are a type of Mexican flower.

Where did you grow up?

San Leandro, California

Who did you look up to growing up?

I always looked up to my mother growing up. She was a single mother raising three kids for most of my life, and her work ethic and resilience has endlessly inspired me. I have always been aware of how different I am from her in many ways. But at the end of the day, I think she is an incredible woman and will always be my biggest role-model.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

My favorite childhood memory is taking road trips to Yosemite with my mom and two siblings. I distinctly remember the hours spent in our red Ford Explorer, singing in the car and stopping by Marisposa village to eat at the Happy Burger Diner on our way to Yosemite.

How long have you been competing in your sport?

I started playing soccer when I was 4, but I began playing more competitively when I was 10. When I first began playing as a four year old, I did not even take the sport seriously. I was always the one picking flowers on the side. Literally. My mom was so embarrassed with me.

What/who got you into your sport?

My mom was the one who pushed me to do sports when I was younger. She put me in soccer because soccer was always a big part of my family, even in the generations before me. She also had me try basketball and softball, but soccer was the sport that I fell in love with.

What is your favorite color?

What is your favorite food/drink?

My favorite drinks are coffee, hot chocolate, and water. I don't drink much else. My favorite foods might be tacos and sushi. I can't pick just one.

What is song do you have on repeat right now?

Without Me by Halsey

Who is your favorite celebrity and why?

Halsey is definitely my favorite celebrity because she has always made music that I was able to connect to, which I rarely felt with other artists. I also love who she is and what she stands up for.

What is something you want to do before you graduate?

One of my goals that I have accomplished while being here at Mills is doing the best I possibly could in my academics. While it hasn't always been perfect, I have learned a lot in my classes and have been focused on keeping school as one of my top priorities. My goal was also to complete four seasons of soccer at Mills, which was hard to do when balancing other responsibilities. So I am very proud of that.

What is your favorite class this semester and why?

I am really enjoying both my ethnic studies class (Native American history prior to 1900) and my Transnational Sexualities classes because the material I have been learning in both has been blowing my mind all semester. They have both been intellectually challenging (especially the Transnational Sexualities) but they've been great to be in.
