Sophomore rower Liv Coletta was named to the NCAA National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this month. Coletta has served on the Mills College SAAC for two years now. The intent for SAAC on college campuses is to give student-athletes the opportunity and ability to shape their intercollegiate athletic experience. They meet every other Friday and depending on projects, sometimes every Friday for an hour with a SAAC advisor. At the national level, SAAC has the ability to give the student-athletes a voice within the NCAA structure, propose NCAA legislation, vote on NCAA legislation and can often sway the vote on difficult proposed legislation.
Head swim coach Neil Virtue is Mills' SAAC advisor and is thrilled that Coletta has been honored with this nomination. "Liv's selection as a national SAAC rep is very exciting for Mills College. Our small (in size) school continues to do big things. This is the 3rd time we have had representative at the National level of SAAC. To be able to have Liv's perspective and representing Mills is fantastic," commented Virtue.
Athletic Director, Allie Fox, shares Virtue's excitement: "As a founding member of the ACAA, Mills is proud to have Liv representing both the Cyclones and the conference at the national level. Liv has demonstrated great leadership and an incredible commitment to the athletics department in her two years here and brings an important voice to National SAAC. I am excited to see the impact she will have!"
Coletta is an active member in Mills athletics from being a leader on the crew team, working in the athletic department, to representing SAAC at various staff meetings and committees. She is joining honored ranks with Mills alumnae rower Kirin Khan (2010) and rower/swimmer Desirae Tongco (2012) who both served in National SAAC during their time at Mills.
